I have had Type 1 Diabetes since 1974 and am in a good position to judge the significance of new developments in diabetes care. Although I spent my career as a diabetologist working in a district hospital I believe that I can best serve my fellow trustees by bringing the perspective of a person with diabetes, rather than as a specialist voice. However, it does help, as chairman, to have a background that enables me to follow the many complicated matters that the Board discusses. I have now retired from practicing medicine and am fortunate to be able to enjoy the family, garden and in the summer, messing about on boats. My ambition? To help people with diabetes by means of the many good things that our trust is able to do – and to get my Nabarro medal in 2024!
